Dragon fly

Something I never get to see in my little part of the Sonoran desert: dragon flies. Desert insects are not pretty or fun. They are gross and large and make scary noises and pinch or bite or sting, and as much of a lover of Mother Earth that I am I have no qualms about having the Orkin man spray the crap out of my house to make sure I don't wake up to a scorpion over my bed.

But dragon flies are alright.  : )

I saw this one in the Florida panhandle.

Lomo Sailboats

Images copyright Caroline Goddard/Bloom Creatives 2010. All Rights Reserved.

I spent the week of Fourth of July at my very favorite beach in the world: Grayton Beach, FL. Every year they have this great little sailboat race called the Rags to Riches Regatta, and this year I was able to photograph it! This hot pink boat is right about at the spot where my husband & I were married almost two years ago.

Earlier today I had a conversation with a fellow photographer about how often I used heavy post-production techniques to "stylize" a photograph. It depends on the purpose of the photo, and of the photo itself. After our chat I realized I had never processed these and thought they'd look pretty sweet as lomo images. Do you think I was right?

Found treasures

Photo copyright Caroline Goddard/Bloom Creatives 2010. All Rights Reserved.

When packing up to move a couple of months ago, I found two old rolls of film... Remember film? I brought them to the developer, and only one roll came out - the other was just too old, I suppose. The other roll was from five years ago and held images of a boat trip my now-husband (but then boyfriend of less than a year) took to celebrate my birthday. These are my two favorite images from the roll... Nope, none of me. I was a solid 10 pounds heavier. Nobody needs to see that.

Do you see the duck?

I love the dreamy quality the expired film gave these images...

The Prince of Santa Rosa Beach

This is my favorite little face in the whole wide world... My nephew Connor, the Prince of Santa Rosa Beach. We spent a super-fun day at one of those places kids love and adults tolerate because we love them - little go-karts, kiddie rides, mini-golf and an arcade. He let us skip the arcade  : )

Children's portraits are much more fun - and therefor look much more natural - when taken in an environment where the child can forget he is the subject of intense photographic scrutiny and just be himself. Think outside the box for your next family portrait session. Head to a local amusement park, airplane hangar, train yard, butterfly sanctuary - anyplace that will capture your child's attention and those fleeting moments of childhood wonder.
